Serious Allegations of Human Rights Violations Against a Minor; Will Approach the National Human Rights Commission
CHANDIGARH: Paramjit Singh Kainth, Vice President of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha, Punjab, has demanded that Nabha MLA Gurdev Singh Mann, popularly known as Dev Mann, publicly apologise over allegations of assault and humiliating treatment of a minor and provide appropriate compensation to the victim’s family.
Kainth stated that the fight against drugs must be conducted strictly within the framework of the law. No individual has the right to take the law into their own hands or violate the dignity and human rights of a minor.
According to information received, the minor was allegedly accused of consuming and selling drugs. He was reportedly taken to Police Post Rohti and subsequently underwent a dope test at Nabha City Police Station. The test report was reportedly negative, after which he was returned to his family. Kainth emphasised that the entire incident must be investigated impartially to establish the facts and ensure accountability in accordance with the law.
He demanded a fair and time-bound investigation under the supervision of a senior police officer, free from political pressure. If the allegations are substantiated, strict legal action should be taken against those found responsible.
Kainth further stated that he had met the victim’s family, listened to their concerns and assured them that he would make every possible effort to secure justice. He said the matter would be raised with the relevant authorities and that legal action would be pursued if necessary. If appropriate action is not taken, he will consider filing a formal complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and pursuing other available legal remedies.
Kainth said, “Being an MLA does not place anyone above the law. Protecting the human rights of a minor, ensuring an impartial investigation and securing justice for the victim’s family are essential. We will continue to raise our voice until justice is delivered.”
Bhagwant Singh Ramgarhia, Jora Singh Ramgarhia, Sarabjit Singh Ramgarhia, Ranjit Rana and Balwinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
