AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has announced his support for the Punjab bandh call given on October 15 in protest against the murder of Sikh Parvinder Singh, who opposed drug dealers.
Advocate Dhami said that the Shiromani Committee stands firmly with the people who are struggling to get the youth of Punjab out of the swamp of drugs and is also committed to provide all possible support to the family of Parvinder Singh.
He said that the office and all the institutions of the Shiromani Committee will be closed tomorrow, October 15, in protest against the brutal murder of this Sikh youth.
He said that Punjab is grappling with a serious problem of drugs. Hundreds of youth are falling prey to it every day and many houses are being destroyed.
He said that during the Miri Piri Khalsa March, the incidents of open sale of drugs in various villages during the Sangat Samvad had raised serious questions on the claims being made by the government against drugs.
He said that it is a matter of sorrow that only those who raise their voice against drugs in Punjab are being targeted. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of those who struggle against the drug trade and concrete and effective action should be taken to eradicate drugs instead of just making announcements.
The SGPC President appealed to all Punjabis to unite and raise their voices against drugs and fulfill their responsibility to protect the future of the young generation of Punjab.
On this occasion, SGPC Chief Secretary S. Kulwant Singh Manan, Member S. Surjit Singh Bhittevad, OSD S. Satbir Singh, Secretary S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Additional Secretary S.
