AMRITSAR: The general meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has been called on November 20 for the annual election of the President and other office bearers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. at Teja Singh Samundari Hall at 12 noon.

This decision has been taken in the meeting of the Interim Committee held today under the chairmanship of the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.

The murder of Bhai Parvinder Singh, who was fighting against drugs, was strongly condemned in a resolution passed by the Interim Committee. The resolution said that the increasing phenomenon of drugs in Punjab is a matter of great concern, but instead of taking action against drugs, the government is only taking action against those who raise their voice against drugs. Bhai Parvinder Singh also fell victim to this incompetence of the government. With the aim of eternally remembering the struggle and martyrdom of Shaheed Bhai Parvinder Singh to save the youth of Punjab from the scourge of drugs and the martyrdom he gave for this purpose, the Interim Committee approved the installation of his portrait in the Central Sikh Museum located in the Sri Darbar Sahib complex.

The Interim Committee has strongly condemned the police's registration of an FIR against about 40 youth who participated in a protest against drugs in Mansa recently, the arrest of some youth and the removal of turbans of Sikhs and abusing women during the protest. The resolution brought in this regard said that it is the need of the hour to get the young generation of Punjab out of the swamp of drugs and it is the responsibility of the government and the administration to encourage the youth who are raising their voices for this purpose. However, taking police action against the youth involved in such a protest, removing the turbans of the Sikhs participating in the protest and abusing women is a step that suppresses democratic values and the legitimate voice of the youth.

The Interim Committee strongly demanded from the Punjab government that the FIR registered against the youth. It should be immediately revoked, the arrested youth should be released without delay, and instead of targeting those who raise their voice against drugs, strict action should be taken against those involved in the drug trade.

Similarly, expressing grief over the death of Bhai Manpreet Singh, a youth who had gone to join the protest against the murder of Shaheed Bhai Parvinder Singh due to electrocution while removing a poster, financial assistance of Rs. 2.5 lakh was also approved to his family. The meeting also approved assistance of Rs. 50,000 each to 479 Sikh religious soldiers who revolted in protest against the attack on Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib by the then Congress government in June 1984. During the meeting, it was also decided to give 3% dearness allowance to the employees of the Shiromani Committee.

Earlier, on the demise of Shiromani Committee member S. Amarjit Singh Bhalaipur, Jathedar Suba Singh Dabwala and Shaheed Bhai Parvinder Singh, the Mool Mantra and Gur Mantra were chanted to pay homage to the departed souls.
