Four-and-a-Half Years of Neglect: Kewal Singh Dhillon Slams AAP Government Over Unfulfilled Promises to Employees
CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended its support to the two-day statewide strike by government employees in Punjab on October 21 and 22 over their long-pending demands. Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of being anti-employee, alleging that it had neglected employees’ concerns for the past four-and-a-half years.
Dhillon said the government’s continued indifference and failure to honour its promises had forced employees to wage a prolonged struggle for their rights, causing inconvenience to the general public as well.
He pointed out that several key demands, including the release of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and the regularisation of contractual and outsourced employees, remained unresolved despite repeated appeals.
He said the AAP had made numerous promises to government employees before coming to power, but employees were now being forced to take to the streets to demand their legitimate rights. He added that the government’s policies had fuelled growing discontent among employees, adversely affecting the functioning of government departments and the delivery of public services.
Dhillon urged the Punjab Government to immediately initiate talks with employee unions and resolve their legitimate demands within a fixed timeframe. “Employees need concrete decisions, not mere assurances,” he said, stressing that the government must fulfil its responsibilities and protect the rights and interests of its employees.
