MOHALI: A case of alleged rape of a minor schoolgirl has been registered by Mohali Police after a medical examination revealed that she was pregnant.
Contrary to preliminary information describing the survivor as six years old, available police-based reports identify her as a Class VI student. One report gives her age as 15. Her precise age should be confirmed from the FIR and school or birth records.
The survivor is a Chandigarh resident who reportedly visited the rented accommodation of a school friend in Mohali. According to the complaint, she was staying at her friend’s house in April 2026 when a youth arrived there with two other persons.
It has been alleged that the youth gave the girl a cold drink mixed with alcohol or another intoxicating substance. After consuming it, she allegedly became intoxicated and was sexually assaulted.
The alleged offence remained undisclosed for several months. The matter came to light after the girl developed severe abdominal pain and was taken to a Chandigarh hospital. Doctors discovered during examination that she was pregnant and informed the authorities.
On the family’s complaint, Chandigarh Police registered a zero FIR on October 7 because the alleged offence had occurred outside its territorial jurisdiction. The case was subsequently transferred to Mohali Police, which registered the FIR at Balongi police station and began an investigation.
The accused has reportedly been booked under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police are conducting raids to trace him and are also verifying his age.
The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the accused had not been arrested at the time of the latest available information.
The identity of the survivor, her family, school, friend and exact address is being withheld in accordance with the POCSO Act and other legal protections governing child sexual-abuse cases.
