MOHALI: An additional district and sessions court in Mohali has handed three men 20-year prison terms for gang-raping a woman artist whom they lured with a purported opportunity to appear in a Punjabi song video.

The convicts are Jaswinder Singh alias Jelly, Deepak Kumar and Gurwinder Singh alias Manna. Each was also fined ₹50,000 for the gang-rape conviction under Section 376D of the Indian Penal Code.

The case arose from a complaint to Majri police concerning an incident on October 12, 2022. The woman said she received a message offering her work on a song shoot involving a Punjabi singer. After initially declining, she agreed to accompany the person who contacted her when he came to collect her.

During the journey, she was told they would pick up other participants. Two men subsequently intercepted the vehicle, seized its keys and took her phone. The complaint described threats with a knife followed by sexual assault by the three men.

The court convicted them after considering the evidence and arguments. It additionally imposed seven-year terms and ₹2,000 fines under Section 394, and five-year terms with ₹8,000 fines under Sections 366 and 120B.
